DTN COMMENTS:  Cattle country is very quiet this afternoon. This week, 
Southern live trade was at $214 to mostly $218, $5 to $6 higher than the 
prior week's weighted averages, while Northern dressed deals had a range 
of $340 to $352, mostly $350, $8 higher than the previous week's weighted 
averages. 

Today's slaughter totaled 87,000 head, 5,000 more than last week, but 
32,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 7,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 559,000 head, 4,000 greater than the 
previous week, but 63,000 below 2024. Cattle futures closed sharply 
higher on both live (up 145 to 205) and feeder (up 170 to 280) contracts. 
Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to moderate box 
movement.
